The Story of the Fern

If you look closely, you will notice that a fern will usually make its way into my photos and logo.  Why?  Well, this story takes us back to 2006 when I was backpacking in New Zealand.

We were about to embark on a whitewater rafting trip for the day, when our guide stopped at one point to show us a silver fern along the path.  He explained that it was very sacred to the people of New Zealand, and years ago, hunters and warriors used to use the silver fern as a way to find their way home.  At first glance, it looks just like any other fern.  Flip it over though, and it has a silver underbelly and so the hunters and warriors would flip certain ferns over as they went, so that when it was time to head back, all they had to do was follow the silver path of ferns.

To me, the fern signifies a quiet fierceness.  If you are not aware of what surrounds you, then you will likely miss it.  But, if you open your eyes, and your heart, to what the world has to offer, then you may just find your way back home.
